Trilogy General Description:
Single Instruments or Instrument Pairs are digitally connected to a PC computer. These components when used with the Trilogy Software allow large scale coordinate measurement. The instruments are typically mounted on rigid stands. The operator optically sights the instrument, or auto-tracks, at target points to be measured. Trilogy displays the
coordinate of the measured point(s) with respect to a specific orientation and MUCH MORE.
Trilogy @ A Glance:
Trilogy Software- Designed using over 30 years combined experience in the Optical Tooling & Computer industries. A logical structured approach is used to successfully guide the user(s) through measurements.
Official Accuracy Reference- NIST Traceability available via on-site system calibration.
Analysis- Create & compare geometrical entities; Determine unlimited relationships.
Error Protection- Status messages, logic descriptions, statistical analysis, trapping for and recovery from mistakes, and checks for misuse of equipment are provided.
High Precision Processing- Extended 32 & 64 bit precision algorithms allowing for high accuracy.
Non-specific Instrument Interface- Trilogy will interface with a large variety of digital angle sensing instruments; Trilogy may also be used with angle+distance devices. Nearly all equipment manufacturers are supported. Custom interfaces may be developed.
Reports- A real-time text log file tracks actions and data. Log file information may be exported/copy/pasted to other dynamic data exchange objects on the pc desktop (example: MS Excel spread sheets). Point data may be picked/visualized via Trilogy embedded 2D (ref below download) and 3D viewers (LLNL VisIt, VTK).
Measurement Screen Tools- Double-Center Switch, 3D Axis Coordinates, Axis Tolerances, Closure, Previous Point Data, Comment, Help, Manual Data Entry, Delete Point, Review Point Data, Hidden Point, Value Comparison- Real Time, Point Name, Average Shots, Set_Out, and more.
Accuracy Compensation- `Direct' and `Indirect' instrument readings may be selected as desired for highest accuracy. This may be used to check instrument(s) accuracy irrespective of manufacturers claims.
Real Time Measurement- Instruments may be consistently polled during measurement mode. Update may be as fast as fractional second depending upon instrumentation.
Axes Orientations- Orient axes in a manner similar to Optical Tooling & ASME Y14.5. Real Time orientaion allows for building and adjustment during data collection.
Accuracy Protection- Software compensates for and/or identifies alignment errors and provides statistical analysis of the effects.
Hidden Points- Orient to hidden or calculated non-targetable points.
Instrument Requirements:
TWO angle, or ONE angle+distance (Total Station), digital instruments with digital interface.
The following MINIMUM computer specifications are recommended for running the Trilogy software (as of this writing):
_PC computer, 3.0GHz P4, running Windows 32 bit Operating System XPpro SP3; Notebook typical;
_2.0GB RAM memory (actual requirements, in part, depend on #'s of job points processed and accessory features; see below );
_One hard drive with 500MB free space (does not include OS system free space reqs, virtual memory, etc);
_One Writable CD drive recommended;
_VGA graphics color screen* set to 1024 x 768 32bit minimum pixels resolution (1400 x 1050 typical);
-----*Mobility Radeon 9600 M10 AGP adapter or better for 3D Rendering;
-----*Display adapter/driver and computer should run DirectX9 or greater;
-----*Less powerful drivers &/or graphics cards may result in poor or incomplete 3D viewing.
_Pointing device (on-board pointer/mouse typical);
_RS232c serial port (one port required for each instrument; USB options acceptable; allowed com# = 1 to 16 {1 to 8 for some laser trackers};
_Ethernet Interface Card/Capability if running ethernet/tcpip communications with some instruments {ex: Faro tracker};
_One DB25 Parallel Printer Port on Mother Board -or- USB port; This for HardKey allocation (specify when ordering).
_Generally, ~8Kb RAM is required per each point; This is above system requirements.
-----Thus, ~8Mb RAM should be available per each 1000 points processed.
_Generally, ~1Mb Drive space is required per 1000 points; This is above RAM & other point requirements.
_Internet Explorer ver 6 or above.
_Trilogy might need to run from a User with Administrator privilege; This because of newer OS updates from Microsoft Corporation.
Accuracy:
Primarily dependent upon instrument accuracy;
The greater of +- 1 arc-sec, +- .001 inch capable with two fractional arc-sec angle instruments.
Trilogy is designed to NOT be a significant element in accuracy decline.
